Hi, I’m James A. Jones
I’m James A. Jones Sr. - a proud Southside Spartanburg native, attorney, and former federal prosecutor with nearly three decades of experience in public service. I’ve had the honor of serving as Deputy Chief Counsel at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where I managed complex litigation involving national security and human rights, represented the federal government in over 1,000 immigration hearings each year, and led legal initiatives recognized for excellence in leadership and innovation.
My journey began with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Attorney General’s Honors Program, and I went on to build a career grounded in fairness, accountability, and service. I earned my degree from Wofford College and my law degree from Florida State University College of Law, where I was recognized for my work in immigration law.
But no matter where my career has taken me, Spartanburg has always been home. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I helped coordinate food distribution efforts that delivered thousands of pounds of provisions each week to families in need. I’ve partnered with local organizations to expand access, promote equity, and create second-chance opportunities, and I continue that work today through my private immigration law practice serving individuals and families across our region.
I’m running for the South Carolina House of Representatives, District 31, because I believe in this community and its future. I’ve launched my S.O.S. platform — Stimulating Opportunity for Spartanburg — to address the real challenges our families are facing and to create meaningful, lasting change.
My Approach
I believe in listening first and leading with action. My approach is rooted in being accessible, honest, and results-driven. I take the time to understand the needs of our community and focus on solutions that actually make a difference. Whether it’s supporting small businesses, strengthening public safety, or expanding opportunities for working families. I’m committed to transparency, accountability, and always putting people over politics.
Simple ideas
Real solutions don’t have to be complicated. I focus on practical, common-sense ideas that address everyday challenges and deliver results for our community.
Lasting impact
This campaign is about more than today, it’s about building a stronger future for District 31 with decisions that create long-term opportunity, stability, and growth.
